Perth Autism Support was founded in November 2011 to support gaps identified in the support of autistic children and young people up to the age of 18 and their families in Perth & Kinross.
We currently support on average 240 young people every week through our social opportunities and many more children, young people and parents/carers through our one to one support, family and education support and training and have 1,200+ families registered for our services across Perth & Kinross.
Our story started with our Chief Executive looking to create social opportunities for her son, who was diagnosed as autistic at 5 years old. In mainstream school, finding the right “fit” proved difficult, with mainstream activities, whilst welcoming, were not experienced enough to understand how to support the environment to give her son positive experiences. So, in 2011, PAS was born with our first activities taking place in Easter 2012, bringing together a small group of children and parents.
The need for services quickly became apparent and ten years later the organisation has grown substantially, supporting children, young people and families across Perth & Kinross and in Dundee City from 2021.
The growth of our services have been in direct response to what children and families tell us – the support they want at a time that is right for them.
The organisation is a multi award winning service, with a staff team of 30+ and 5 areas of service:
You can find out more about each area by clicking on Our Services at the top of the page.
A strengths based organisation we believe that each of our children deserves the opportunity to thrive in their local community and fulfil all their hopes and dreams in life, celebrating each individual and allowing everyone to be who they are.
Granted charitable status in January 2012, Perth Autism Support changed legal form to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, in March 2018.
