So we love what we do at Perth Autism Support, but we know sometimes the idea of working in social care or childcare can be a little bit daunting for anyone who hasn’t worked in this sector before.
We got to thinking, who better to talk about what it is like than our wonderful PAS team so we have two brilliant personal experiences for you from our Children’s Services Team – Joss and Kathleen (check out her story in the next post!).
Both Kathleen and Joss are Autism Practitioners in our Children’s Services team with Joss joining us this summer, here’s his story and why he thinks about his job at PAS!
Thanks for sharing Joss!
Do you have a passion for helping others? I have always been passionate about helping people and knew I wanted to have a career focused on helping people in some capacity.
I attended the University of the Highlands and Islands for my undergraduate studies in Social Science and received a bachelor’s degree. When I graduated, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do.
I knew it would be social work, psychology, or something similar, but I couldn’t quite decide. After some time working in retail, I applied for the role with PAS; and guess what? I got the job…..
So, what is working in Children’s Services as an autism practitioner like….? My favourite aspect of the job is that I get to work with an amazing team of people. Also getting to know the young people who make use of our service has been wonderful. I l feel that I learn something new every day, as each young person brings something new, and they never cease to amaze me. Working at PAS is an incredible rewarding experience where no two days are the same and that brings a sense of excitement and joy to the job. It’s a great environment to work in and my team are so supportive of one another. I always look forward to going to work.
And it just so happens that I am Autistic, and I can honestly say that if I had had the opportunity to attend such a wonderful organisation as PAS growing up, I know it would have been incredibly beneficial to my development.
If you would like to make a difference in a young person’s life, then you can do that working within Perth Autism Support.
