During the summer holiday programme, our young people had the opportunity to develop their creative skills in a song writing and music workshop. This was in partnership with The Sound System Project created by Tom, Anders and John.
The young people learnt to make their own sounds using a variety of objects which created different noises and pitches. They also learnt about rhythm by working together in a circle and clapping to the beat.
The young people were given the opportunity to use a worksheet based on a ‘superhero’ theme which allowed them to develop their own characters. From this, they created a story which they used for their own song lyrics.
John, Tom and Anders brought along all of their sound system kit which the young people loved exploring! They especially enjoyed using the keyboard and listening to the different sounds it could create. The young people also learnt about a software called Soundtrap which is an online audio workstation used to make music and podcasts. Within this software, each young person was asked to choose an instrument. From this, they were able to listen to different sounds related to their instrument of choice and this was then added to their song.
The young people worked together to build up their song and they each gave their own suggestions and opinions. They were also given the chance to use a microphone and sing their lyrics to add to the music. One young person in particular thrived from this opportunity and really enjoyed hearing their own voice playback over the music.
The young people and the staff loved both of the sessions provided by The Sound System Project. It was a fantastic new learning experience for everyone involved and we look forward to the possibility of working together again in the future!
We are delighted to present our PAS Summer Tune – enjoy!!
